The Wildcats are also the No. 5 national seed.

The NCAA Tucson Regional opens play Friday with OSU facing UC Santa Barbara (39-18) at 3 p.m. (CST) at Hi Corbett Field. The second game pits Arizona (40-15) vs. Grand Canyon (39-19-1) at 9 p.m. (CST). Times for the Saturday and Sunday games, as well as Monday's if-necessary game, will be announced at a later time.

OSU brings a 35-17-1 record into the NCAA tourney and is coming off a run to the Big 12 Conference Baseball Championship title game last week. The Cowboys finished fourth in the league's regular season standings.

The 2021 NCAA Regional appearance will mark the eighth in a row for the Cowboys, and OSU is making its 46th NCAA Tournament appearance, a total that ranks fourth all time. OSU owns an all-time NCAA tourney record of 153-98 (.610), with the 153 wins ranking sixth in NCAA history.

OSU has made an NCAA Regional each season under Holliday, who is in his ninth season at his alma mater. It is the Cowboys' eighth NCAA appearance under his direction – there was no NCAA tourney in 2020 after the remainder of the season was cancelled in March due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The Pokes are 19-15 in NCAA tourney play under Holliday. During his tenure, the Cowboys have made five NCAA Regional finals appearances and earned three Super Regional berths, and in 2016, Holliday led his alma mater to the 20th College World Series in program history.

This year marks the second under Holliday that the Cowboys have been a No. 2 seed; they previously achieved that status in 2016. OSU was a No. 1 seed in 2014, 2015 and 2019, and Holliday-coached OSU teams have been a No. 3 seed three times (2013, 2017 and 2018).

OSU is seeking to advance to the fifth NCAA Super Regional in program history (1999, 2007, 2014, 2016 and 2019). Should the Cowboys win the Tucson Regional, they will face the winner of the NCAA Oxford (Ole Miss) Regional in a Super Regional.
